Spyros Droukopoulos is an economist focusing on competition disputes and investigations across a wide range of industries and jurisdictions. He has over 12 years of professional experience.

Spyros is specialised in microeconomic analysis and damages quantification, particularly in relation to Article 101 and Article 102 TFEU cases.

He has advised over 30 companies and public authorities across Europe in different sectors, assisting them with competition investigations, litigation and merger reviews.

Notable examples of his work include advising on the M&A strategy for a leading groceries retailer, quantifying damages from the power cables cartel and supporting the European Commission in a high-stakes litigation.

Prior to joining Accuracy in 2023, Spyros worked for two European consultancies in Brussels, London, Oxford and Paris. He has also completed work placements in the British and Greek public sector.

Damages quantification: analyses market trends, pricing patterns and firm behaviour more generally. Estimates overcharges, lost profits or market distortions caused by alleged anti-competitive practices.

Merger advice: provides strategic merger advice and transaction design. Prepares notification filings, which can include assessments of unilateral effects and market equilibrium analyses. Assists legal teams during interactions with competition authorities.

Antitrust cases: examines market structures and competitive dynamics in order to assess firm strategies and identify any dominant positions. Evaluates potential theories of harm and their effects, offering strategic advice to either the dominant firm or potential victims.

Econometric modelling: applies statistical models to real-world data to estimate robust counterfactual scenarios and produce forecasts used in antitrust and litigation cases more generally.

  • Supported an engineering and manufacturing company to claim over €200 million in damages following the unilateral amendment of a multi-billion-euro contract.
  • Assisted a large producer of electricity to reach a settlement of over €200 million, following a cartel finding against some of its suppliers.
  • Advised a large French car producer to claim over €50 million in damages from a long-running cartel of car parts.
  • Supported the European Commission at the General Court, in its defence against a large American company that was claiming over €1 billion in damages.
  • Advised two suppliers that wished to merge their activities in a deal that was valued at over €150 million and required the regulatory clearance of a national competition authority.
  • Assisted a large French telecommunications operator in its defence against a competitor that was claiming over €100 million in damages.
  • Provided support to one of the largest European airlines, which was facing multi-million-euro penalties from the European Commission.
  • Advised a European producer of drinks to claim over €100 million in damages from a competitor that had abused their dominant position in the market.
