The Amsterdam Foodbank is a non-profit organisation, which is committed to distributing food to needy households. The Foodbank serves as the link between the excess food within the “for-profit” food industry (retailers, manufacturers, growers, etc.) and the “non-profit” food pantries and community. The Amsterdam Foodbank is currently responsible for the distribution of food and other necessary items to households via 13 distribution points throughout Amsterdam. Three hundred volunteers assist the Foodbank in the distribution.
On Monday, 31 January 2011, Accuracy Netherlands, represented by Surita Reynolds (Director of Accuracy Netherlands) donated 20 footballs, which included €25 per football to the Amsterdam Foodbank to support them in their cause. Ellie Goemans, coordinator of the Amsterdam Foodbank, commented that it is especially the children from the families who rely on the Foodbank, that will gain the greatest happiness from a “luxury” item such as a football, whilst the cash donation will help to cover the running costs of the Foodbank.
