About

A non-practising international arbitration lawyer, Cheng-Yee is skilled in business development and client relations, having founded the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration Secretariat’s first office outside of Paris, where she led a team administering hundreds of ICC arbitrations seated mainly in Asia Pacific, but also the Middle East and west coast USA. After 8 years at the ICC, she became an investment manager / senior client relations manager responsible for setting up and running the Hong Kong office of Omni Bridgeway (a global litigation funder), as well as sourcing, assessing and negotiating funding agreements and managing funded cases through to resolution. Prior to joining Accuracy, Cheng-Yee was in charge of client relationships in the Asia Pacific region, promoting and sourcing arbitration / litigation matters for a global expert consultancy.

In-depth expertise

Cheng-Yee is qualified to practise law in England & Wales and Malaysia.  She trained and worked in the International Arbitration Group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (Paris and London), as well as Shook Lin & Bok in Kuala Lumpur.

She is a member of various dispute resolution groups, including the ICC Commission on Arbitration & ADR, ICC Hong Kong Arbitration Sub-Committee, HK45, ArbitralWomen, Society of Construction Law Hong Kong, HKIAC Users’ Council, Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mediation & Arbitration Center (MARC) Court and the Arbitration Committee of the Lagos Court of Arbitration. Cheng-Yee is featured as a Thought Leader for Third-Party Funding since 2023 by Who’s Who Legal (now Lexology Index).

Examples of engagements

  • At the global expert consultancy, Cheng-Yee worked closely with experts (both in-house & independent consulting experts) and support teams in forensic accounting & commercial damages, construction claims & expert services and forensic technical services to successfully generate revenue from international arbitrations & litigations seated in Hong Kong, mainland China and Singapore, conducted by top tier international, Chinese and Singapore law firms.
  • She collaborated with service line leaders, experts and law firms to prepare, negotiate and send out proposals / engagement letters, as well as resolving issues that may arise during projects including in relation to fees and scope of services.
  • Cheng-Yee established and expanded market awareness / knowledge of multidisciplinary services in the APAC region through numerous client meetings, presentations, guest lectures, obtaining speaking slots for experts at conferences, seminars and workshops organised by (and sometimes in collaboration with) law firms, arbitral institutions / organisations, and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Restructuring and Insolvency Faculty (HKICPA RIF).
  • She worked closely with the marketing team to curate events aimed at contractor clients and lawyers, including seminars, workshops and social events.
