Aerospace & Defence

The aerospace and defence sector plays a crucial role in national security, economic development and global connectivity.

Today’s aerospace industry is contending with multiple headwinds: supply-chain capacity stretched to its limits; tightening decarbonisation targets, particularly around sustainable aviation fuel and hydrogen propulsion; and persistent shortages of semiconductors and other critical materials.

The defence sector – which covers land, sea, air, space and cybersecurity – is also facing fresh challenges, particularly in the wake of the war in Ukraine and rising geopolitical tensions worldwide. These events have triggered a historic pivot in European defence policy, prompting many countries to accelerate rearmament and modernisation. The capacity to deliver higher volumes at a quicker pace and with greater operational performance will become instrumental. Yet true cross-border consolidation opportunities remain scarce for defence sector players, restricting potential economies of scale.  In parallel, with public budgets already being squeezed, innovative financing solutions will be essential to fund the planned rearmament efforts.
