These themes were at the heart of a discussion on international construction disputes recently co-hosted by Accuracy and Hui Zhong Law Firm, bringing together legal and expert perspectives from across the sector.
The event opened with contributions from Hui Zhong Law Firm partners XueYu Yang, Mariana Zhong, Zhang ShuTao, Henry Zhang and Hao Wu, who shared practical insights on the use of delay notices and the application of liquidated damages across different jurisdictions. Their discussions highlighted how early positioning and disciplined contract management can significantly influence the course and outcome of future disputes.
A cross-disciplinary panel then brought together Accuracy experts Samuel Widdowson, Benoît Meulewaeter and Leong Munyou, moderated by Yingnan Chen, to explore best practices in construction disputes from delay, technical and quantum perspectives.
Across all three disciplines, a common conclusion emerged: records matter. The quality, completeness and consistency of project documentation are often decisive in establishing facts, supporting claims and quantifying losses. Well-maintained records not only strengthen a party’s position in formal proceedings but can also facilitate earlier and more efficient resolution of disputes.
The discussion also underscored the value of combining legal, technical and financial expertise to assess risks, build credible narratives and support strategic decision-making throughout the lifecycle of a project and any subsequent dispute.
