A global market leader faces an internal fraud scheme with financial implications

Situation: Disputes
Litigation

Context

A global leader in the B2B commercialization of specialised equipment operated a large fleet of industrial assets. A major internal fraud scheme, orchestrated by the fleet manager, was uncovered and led to a police investigation and the inception of criminal proceedings.

Key Takeaway

Criminal proceedings typically involve long timelines, with intermittent periods of intense activity as new stakeholders become involved. In this context, reports and supporting documentation must be prepared with a high level of rigor, given the financial stakes and the scrutiny from multiple parties.

Accuracy Role

We supported the company and its legal advisers in identifying and documenting the fraud scheme. This included quantifying both the direct financial losses (excess costs incurred) and the indirect gains realised by the perpetrators through the sale of assets via a shell company.

Following the identification of the scheme, we engaged with key stakeholders, including local management, headquarters, law enforcement, the judicial expert and insurers, and prepared comprehensive documentation to support the assessment of damages.
