How to secure successful cross-border deals in private equity – RealDeals

In today’s private equity landscape, one theme dominates the discussion about cross-border investing: without a local presence, the probability of success drops dramatically. That was the takeaway from a recent breakfast briefing hosted by Real Deals.
As Julieta Dorantes, director at DC Advisory, put it: “It’s definitely not easy to look for opportunities cross-border. Sourcing and managing to be successful in a cross-border deal is challenging. An approach we are seeing increasingly is private equity funds moving and actually putting boots on the ground and opening offices more often.” […]
Christy Howard, partner at consulting firm Accuracy, pointed out: “If you don’t have a presence there, local advisers play an absolutely fundamental role, whether it’s financial due diligence, tax, legal or lead advisory. They can help you really understand what might on the face of it look like a great opportunity. But how many times have we all been on transactions where you start work, lift the lid and suddenly a lot of stuff pops out?”
