Alasdair Snadden is a partner at Accuracy, co-leading the construction / infrastructure disputes practice in Asia. Alasdair is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 20 years’ experience on a wide range of projects within the construction and engineering industry. For the last 12 years, he has been based in the Asia Pacific region where he has worked on a variety of international projects.

Alasdair is featured in Lexology Index as a Construction Expert Witness and is Highly Recommended as an Arbitration Expert Witness, highlighting his exceptional expertise in the field. He is also listed in the Arbitration and Southeast Asia guides.

In-depth expertise

Alasdair has significant experience in the preparation and assessment of contentious claims, including the valuation of complex variations, assessment of damages, loss and expense, acceleration, disruption and prolongation costs. He regularly provides independent expert opinions to clients in advance of commencement of formal dispute proceedings and his appointment as an independent expert. He has given evidence as an independent party-appointed quantum expert in proceedings under ICC, SIAC and AIAC Arbitration Rules and before the Singapore High Court.

Building & Construction

  • Engaged by an Asian EPC contractor as independent quantum expert in an international arbitration to provide an assessment of a contractor’s claims for an extension of time, variations, acceleration and defective work against the employer, in relation to a resort development.
  • Appointed by a Southeast Asian main contractor as independent quantum expert in High Court proceedings for assessments of a contractor’s claims and subcontractor’s counterclaims as a result of the contractor having to take over the works, in relation to a sewage piping project.


Refineries

  • Engaged by an Asian EPC contractor as independent quantum expert to provide an assessment of a contractor’s claim in excess of USD1bn for an extension of time, acceleration, adjustments to a procurement strategy, changes in construction process, prolongation and disruption.
  • Appointed by an Asian subcontractor as independent quantum expert in an international arbitration to provide an assessment on over 400 contractor claims and subcontractor counterclaims, on a major oil refinery.


Transportation & Infrastructure

  • Appointed by an Asian main contractor as independent quantum expert in an international arbitration in respect of a dispute between the main contractor and employer over a rail project in Asia.
  • Appointed by an Asian main contractor as independent quantum expert to provide evidence on a dispute between the contractor and subcontractor regarding a metro station and tunnel. The case involved losses claimable due to the alleged default of the subcontractor for leaving the project.
