Selon l\u2019Airport Council International (ACI), le trafic mondial de passagers a atteint 9,5 milliards en 2024. Pressions croissantes pesant sur le mod\u00e8le \u00e9conomique des a\u00e9roports<\/h4><p>Les mod\u00e8les \u00e9conomiques des a\u00e9roports sont confront\u00e9s \u00e0 des risques physiques, financiers et li\u00e9s \u00e0 la transition, qui mettent ce mod\u00e8le \u00e0 rude \u00e9preuve.<\/p><p><strong>Exposition croissante aux risques climatiques : l\u2019impact physique du changement climatique sur le secteur de l\u2019aviation<\/strong><\/p><p>Au-del\u00e0 des risques li\u00e9s \u00e0 la transition, les a\u00e9roports sont \u00e9galement confront\u00e9s \u00e0 des risques physiques croissants. De nombreux a\u00e9roports sont situ\u00e9s dans des zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de faible altitude, ce qui les rend tr\u00e8s vuln\u00e9rables \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9vation du niveau de la mer et aux inondations. Une \u00e9tude de 2021 portant sur 1 200 a\u00e9roports a conclu que 269 d\u2019entre eux sont actuellement menac\u00e9s, un chiffre qui devrait augmenter de 30% d\u2019ici 2100, m\u00eame dans le cadre d\u2019un sc\u00e9nario de r\u00e9chauffement limit\u00e9 \u00e0 2 \u00b0C. Les ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques extr\u00eames \u2014 tels que les temp\u00eates, les vagues de chaleur et les inondations \u2014 devraient perturber les op\u00e9rations de plus en plus fr\u00e9quemment. Par exemple, lors de la vague de chaleur de 2017 en Arizona, les temp\u00e9ratures ont clou\u00e9 au sol plus de 50 avions, soulignant la sensibilit\u00e9 des op\u00e9rations a\u00e9roportuaires aux ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes climatiques extr\u00eames.\u00a0Selon une \u00e9tude d\u2019Eurocontrol, la fermeture d\u2019un a\u00e9roport pendant une journ\u00e9e en raison d\u2019inondations graves ou partielles pourrait potentiellement affecter environ 0,5% des mouvements a\u00e9riens quotidiens dans les a\u00e9roports de taille moyenne et 2 \u00e0 3% dans les grands a\u00e9roports europ\u00e9ens.<br \/>Parall\u00e8lement, le changement climatique accentue les turbulences atmosph\u00e9riques en renfor\u00e7ant le contraste de temp\u00e9rature entre les masses d'air chaudes et froides qui forment le courant-jet. Cela entra\u00eene une usure accrue des appareils, un allongement des dur\u00e9es de vol \u2014 les pilotes devant adapter leurs itin\u00e9raires pour \u00e9viter les zones instables \u2014, une hausse des co\u00fbts d'exploitation, ainsi qu'une baisse de la demande due \u00e0 la crainte des passagers face aux turbulences. <br \/>\u00c0 ces menaces physiques croissantes s'ajoutent la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 des infrastructures a\u00e9roportuaires vieillissantes et le durcissement des conditions d'assurance, la hausse des primes et la r\u00e9duction des garanties dans les zones \u00e0 haut risque poussant de plus en plus les exploitants \u00e0 investir dans des mesures visant \u00e0 renforcer la r\u00e9silience.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b7f85d5 e-grid e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"b7f85d5\" risques financiers et des opportunit\u00e9s : le risque climatique red\u00e9finit le financement du secteur a\u00e9rien<\/strong><\/p><p>Le changement climatique est en train de bouleverser profond\u00e9ment l'acc\u00e8s au capital dans le secteur a\u00e9rien.<\/p><p>Les investisseurs et les institutions financi\u00e8res r\u00e9orientent de plus en plus leurs fonds vers des actifs conformes aux crit\u00e8res environnementaux, sociaux et de gouvernance (ESG), ce qui expose les infrastructures \u00e0 forte intensit\u00e9 carbone \u00e0 une r\u00e9duction de leurs possibilit\u00e9s de financement.<\/p><p>En 2022, par exemple, la Banque europ\u00e9enne d'investissement a suspendu le versement d'un pr\u00eat de 200 millions d'euros destin\u00e9 \u00e0 l'extension de l'a\u00e9roport de Budapest en raison de <strong>l'absence d'\u00e9tude d'impact sur l'environnement<\/strong> portant sur la pollution atmosph\u00e9rique et sonore ainsi que sur les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f6a38f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"f6a38f3\" dans une tendance plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rale : les a\u00e9roports qui ne disposent pas de strat\u00e9gies cr\u00e9dibles de d\u00e9carbonisation sont confront\u00e9s \u00e0 <strong>un acc\u00e8s restreint au capital, des co\u00fbts de financement plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s<\/strong>, et \u00e9ventuellement<strong> des notations de cr\u00e9dit inf\u00e9rieures<\/strong> alors que les pr\u00eateurs et les investisseurs int\u00e8grent dans leurs \u00e9valuations les risques li\u00e9s \u00e0 la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et aux al\u00e9as climatiques.<\/p><p>Par ailleurs, le financement de la lutte contre le changement climatique repr\u00e9sente une v\u00e9ritable opportunit\u00e9 pour les acteurs du secteur de s'orienter vers le d\u00e9veloppement durable.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bc3828d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"bc3828d\" mod\u00e8les d\u2019investissement a\u00e9roportuaire et l\u2019allocation des capitaux.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7514d55 \u00e0 la transition : la tarification du carbone et les syst\u00e8mes d'\u00e9change de quotas d'\u00e9mission font grimper les co\u00fbts d'exploitation des compagnies a\u00e9riennes et des a\u00e9roports<\/strong><\/p><p>Dans le cadre du syst\u00e8me communautaire d'\u00e9change de quotas d'\u00e9mission (SCEQE), toutes les compagnies a\u00e9riennes op\u00e9rant en Europe sont tenues de surveiller leurs \u00e9missions de CO\u2082, de les d\u00e9clarer et de restituer des quotas correspondant \u00e0 ces \u00e9missions.<\/p><ul><li>Pour l'instant, l'impact reste limit\u00e9, car les quotas sont distribu\u00e9s gratuitement par la Commission europ\u00e9enne ; toutefois, le champ d'application de ce r\u00e8glement se limite aux vols au sein de l'UE, l'autorit\u00e9 de r\u00e9gulation ayant pour objectif de favoriser le d\u00e9veloppement du syst\u00e8me mondial de compensation et de r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions de carbone dans l'aviation internationale (CORSIA).<\/li><li>\u00c0 mesure que les quotas gratuits du syst\u00e8me communautaire d'\u00e9change de quotas d'\u00e9mission (SCEQE) sont progressivement supprim\u00e9s, les compagnies a\u00e9riennes doivent acheter des cr\u00e9dits carbone, ce qui fait grimper leurs co\u00fbts d'exploitation. Cela r\u00e9duit leurs marges, diminue leur tr\u00e9sorerie et se r\u00e9percute sur les a\u00e9roports sous la forme d'une baisse du trafic et des recettes. Pour les investisseurs, cela se traduit par un TRI plus faible, des d\u00e9lais de rentabilit\u00e9 plus longs et une plus grande volatilit\u00e9 des flux de tr\u00e9sorerie.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e665772 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"e665772\" Le d\u00e9fi de la d\u00e9carbonisation<\/h4><p><strong>D'o\u00f9 proviennent r\u00e9ellement les \u00e9missions des a\u00e9roports ?<\/strong><\/p><p>Bien que le secteur se soit engag\u00e9 \u00e0 atteindre la neutralit\u00e9 carbone d\u2019ici 2050, il n\u2019existe toujours pas de consensus mondial sur un budget carbone sp\u00e9cifiquement allou\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019aviation internationale. L\u2019Agence internationale de l\u2019\u00e9nergie a averti que le secteur de l\u2019aviation n\u2019\u00e9tait \u201c pas en bonne voie \u201d pour respecter le sc\u00e9nario de \u201c z\u00e9ro \u00e9mission nette \u201d d\u2019ici 2050. Le Climate Action Tracker a qualifi\u00e9 les efforts du secteur pour atteindre les objectifs de d\u00e9carbonisation d\u2019\u00ab extr\u00eamement insuffisants \u00bb.\u201d<\/p><p>Si l\u2019innovation technologique, notamment gr\u00e2ce au d\u00e9veloppement et \u00e0 l\u2019adoption de carburants a\u00e9riens durables (SAF), jouera un r\u00f4le essentiel, le niveau de maturit\u00e9 de ces innovations ne permettra pas d\u2019atteindre la neutralit\u00e9 carbone d\u2019ici 2050 sans une r\u00e9duction de la demande de transport a\u00e9rien.<\/p><p>La grande majorit\u00e9 des 900 millions de tonnes de CO\u2082 \u00e9mises chaque ann\u00e9e par le secteur a\u00e9rien provient des activit\u00e9s en vol (scope 3).<\/p><p>Pour un a\u00e9roport, 861 TP3T des \u00e9missions totales sont imputables aux op\u00e9rations en vol (perim\u00e8tre 3), tandis que les 141 TP3T restants sont li\u00e9s aux op\u00e9rations au sol \u2014 tant celles de l'a\u00e9roport lui-m\u00eame (perim\u00e8tres 1 et 2) que celles des compagnies a\u00e9riennes au sol (perim\u00e8tre 3). Parmi les \u00e9missions au sol :<\/p><ul><li>Le principal facteur est le cycle des avions LTO (atterrissage et d\u00e9collage), qui repr\u00e9sente 55%<\/li><li>L'acc\u00e8s des passagers \u00e0 l'a\u00e9roport repr\u00e9sente 23%<\/li><li>L'acc\u00e8s des employ\u00e9s \u00e0 l'a\u00e9roport repr\u00e9sente 12%<\/li><li>Parmi les sources \u00e0 moindre contribution, on peut citer le groupe auxiliaire de puissance (51 TP3T), les centrales \u00e9lectriques (2,21 TP3T), les services d'assistance au sol (21 TP3T) et des sources mineures telles que l'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 (&lt;11 TP3T) et la flotte de v\u00e9hicules de l&#039;a\u00e9roport (0,11 TP3T)<\/li><\/ul><p>Cette ventilation met en \u00e9vidence la part pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rante des \u00e9missions en vol, tout en mettant en Si la r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions op\u00e9rationnelles est essentielle, c\u2019est sur la port\u00e9e 3 que se joue v\u00e9ritablement la bataille, car elle repr\u00e9sente 95% de l\u2019empreinte carbone totale d\u2019un a\u00e9roport.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5cd18e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5cd18e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>D\u00e9carbonisation des scopes 1, 2 et 3 \u00ab sur le terrain \u00bb<\/strong><\/p><p>En ce qui concerne les \u00e9missions li\u00e9es \u00e0 l'exploitation des a\u00e9roports (port\u00e9es 1 et 2) et les \u00e9missions au sol (port\u00e9e 3), les principaux leviers de d\u00e9carbonisation r\u00e9sident dans l'innovation op\u00e9rationnelle.<\/p><p>L'am\u00e9lioration de l'efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique dans les a\u00e9roports, notamment gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des b\u00e2timents plus \u00e9conomes en \u00e9nergie et \u00e0 des flottes de v\u00e9hicules respectueuses de l'environnement, constitue une \u00e9tape indispensable, mais ne permettra de d\u00e9carboner qu'une petite partie des \u00e9missions du secteur.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9213168 e-grid e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"9213168\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b66c1fe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b66c1fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Le passage \u00e0 des sources d'\u00e9nergie renouvelables pour l'exploitation des a\u00e9roports peut permettre de r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de scope 1 et 2 jusqu'\u00e0 50%, mais cela ne repr\u00e9sente qu'une fraction des \u00e9missions totales attribu\u00e9es au secteur a\u00e9rien.<\/li><li>La r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions pendant la phase de roulage, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'utilisation d'un seul moteur ou au remplacement du groupe auxiliaire de puissance (APU) par de l'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 verte fournie au sol, permet de r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions. Sur le plan technologique, les efforts se concentrent principalement sur les carburants a\u00e9riens durables (SAF et hydrog\u00e8ne).<\/p><ul><li><strong>Carburants a\u00e9riens durables (SAF)<\/strong>, produits \u00e0 partir de sources non p\u00e9troli\u00e8res telles que la biomasse ou des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s synth\u00e9tiques, peuvent r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de CO\u2082 des avions jusqu\u2019\u00e0 80% et constituent actuellement la voie la plus viable vers une aviation \u00e0 z\u00e9ro \u00e9mission nette. Pourtant, leur d\u00e9ploiement reste frein\u00e9 par des co\u00fbts \u00e9lev\u00e9s et une offre limit\u00e9e : la production mondiale a atteint 2,5 milliards de litres en 2025 (soit moins de 0,7% de la consommation de carburant a\u00e9rien), alors que 450 milliards de litres seront n\u00e9cessaires chaque ann\u00e9e d\u2019ici 2050. Pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette demande, il faudrait construire entre 3 000 et 6 500 nouvelles usines de carburants renouvelables et investir environ $128 milliards par an.
