Accuracy experts Giovanni Foti et Greta Ghiotti recently delivered a lecture at the University of Molise on the topic “Forensic Accounting Meets Digital Forensics: Practical Cases of Integrated Investigations”.
The session explored the growing importance of multidisciplinary approaches in corporate investigations, reflecting the increasing complexity of the matters faced by organisations, regulators and legal teams. Drawing on practical cases, the discussion examined how forensic accounting, digital forensics, open-source intelligence (OSINT) and document review can be combined to establish facts, identify risks and support evidence-based conclusions.
Several key themes emerged from the lecture. The speakers highlighted the value of integrating accounting, digital and documentary evidence to develop a comprehensive understanding of complex situations. They also discussed the critical role of forensic technology in the collection, preservation and analysis of digital evidence in a manner that is both robust and defensible.
The session further examined how OSINT techniques can support investigations by identifying connections, uncovering potential red flags and providing relevant contextual information. In parallel, document review was presented as a fundamental component of the investigative process, helping to establish a reliable evidentiary foundation and reconstruct events.
