CIArb Guidelines for Witness Conferencing in International Arbitration

Accuracy is proud to have supported the development and publication of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (the “CIArb”) Guidelines for Witness Conferencing in International Arbitration (the “Guidelines”). The Guidelines were launched in Singapore on 23 April 2019, at the inaugural CIArb Asia-Pacific Regional Conference.

Jonathan Ellis, a director in the Singapore office, is a member of the Drafting Sub-Committee and has been actively involved since the inception of the Guidelines.

The Guidelines seek to provide non-prescriptive guidance on the use of witness conferencing in International Arbitration. They allow arbitrators, counsel for the parties and experts to be on the same page and know what to consider and what to expect of each other as part of witness conferencing.

The Guidelines can be downloaded here. We hope that they will be of assistance to all practitioners, no matter the level of experience, and to all types of users. It will be an “aide-mémoire” to experienced practitioners and the explanatory notes will be helpful for less experienced practitioners, providing further detail of the considerations for witness conferencing in arbitration proceedings.

To see our global reach in more detail, please visit our disputes page, or contact your normal Accuracy contact, who would be happy to discuss further and respond to any queries.
